Her own experiences of volunteering both past and present give insight to the value and meaning that volunteers can offer to communities.  And of the benefits gained in return from the connections made. Nina says:

“I firmly believe that volunteering and community engagement is a vital part of everyday life both locally and globally. Without volunteers the world would be a very different place.  Volunteering brings people together.  It offers opportunities to learn and develop on a very personal level, also to benefit from a social and wellbeing perspective. At Winchester, we value and support the contributions our students and staff can offer to our communities.  And we value the relationships with our community partners. The Champions Awards are a perfect showcase for this and brings people together who all wish to make a difference. I am so proud to be involved with such a wonderful celebration”.

Naomi was keen to get involved with the committee as it is important to celebrate the dedication and valuable contribution our student volunteers make in the local community and beyond.  Volunteering enables students to not only engage with the local community but helps them develop confidence, essential real-world skills and an appetite to become active citizens as they prepare for their future.
